June 26, 2015 was a monumental day; it was the day where everyone knew #lovewins. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that all states are required to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples and to recognize same-sex marriages as legitimate in other jurisdictions. Like any newsworthy announcement, the internet, mainly the twittersphere, rejoiced! A hashtag, #marriageequality, started off the trend. It wasn’t until President Barack Obama, who wasn’t the first to tweet, tweeted his endorsement of the ruling using #lovewins. Brands of all types crafted content on the Supreme Court’s ruling.
U-Haul customer, Kat Lee, submitted a #uhaulfamous photo. This photo and a one two-word hashtag rocked the Twitter world:
