Disaster Relief: Louisiana Flood Victims Offered 30 Days Free U-Haul Storage

Mar 22, 2016

Heavy rains, rising rivers and mandatory evacuations of neighborhoods across several parts of Louisiana have left many residents in dire straits this March.

The U-Haul Companies of Northern Louisiana and Southern Louisiana have responded to our neighbors in need by offering 30 days of free self-storage and U-Box container usage to flood victims in and around the communities of Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Bossier City, Hammond, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Shreveport and Slidell.

In all, 14 U-Haul-owned storage facilities in these areas are participating in the 30 days free self-storage and U-Box assistance.

“Our role as a hands-on community member is to help however we can, especially during times like these,” added Warren Iles, U-Haul Company of Northern Louisiana president. “We want to offer affected individuals and families a free, dry, secure location to bring their belongings while we all work through this flooding and its aftermath.”

These locations may offer 30 days of free U-Box portable moving and self-storage containers if storage units are unavailable. With U-Box containers, you can conveniently pick up our custom-designed trailer and take your U-Box container with you. U-Haul also can store your U-Box container in our secure warehouses or pick up and deliver it to a location of your choice.

U-Haul stores offer needed supplies to help with storm recovery like boxes, tarps, propane and propane tanks. U-Haul urges customers to ensure their tanks are topped off since propane is good to have in the event of long-term power outages.

U-Haul is the industry leader in do-it-yourself moving and self-storage with more than 20,000 locations across the U.S. and Canada. In addition to its 30 days of free self-storage assistance, U-Haul is proud to be at the forefront of aiding communities during times of disaster as an official American Red Cross Disaster Responder.
