PHOENIX – A mariachi band, white carpet and Mexican Riviera flair transformed Jet Linx Scottsdale into Cabo San Lucas for the 23rd Annual Beach Ball. More than 800 guests gathered for a beach party under the stars. The “One & Only” theme was especially fitting, as the event raised more than $1 million for the new Emergency Department and the state’s one and only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center at Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
Guests walked the white carpet where they were greeted by a Mexican burro for a photo keepsake. The Cabo themed open-air cocktail reception and airplane hangar, where the silent auction was hosted, had a festive and colorful vibe.
During dinner, teenagers Javonte and Mackenzie shared the incredible stories of how their lives were saved at Phoenix Children’s following life-threatening injuries, and the Kemper and Ethel Marley Foundation was presented with the Dr. Herbert J. and Julie Louis Spirit of Hope Award in recogn ition of their generous gift to the Emergency Department and Trauma Center. After the program the fiesta continued as the hangar doors rolled open to the After Party where guests danced the night away to music by DJ Rani “g”and instrumentalists.
“A special thank you to UHAUL! Event supplies and silent auction items were transported with ease. Over $100,000 was generated alone in silent auction items transported via the UHAUL truck. Thank you for your continued support of Phoenix Children’s Hospital,” shared Patricia Barney, Corporate Development Officer for Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
U-Haul also assisted with the 2015 Beach Ball where $1.2 million dollars was raised.
Proceeds from this year’s Beach Ball benefit the Hospital’s new Emergency Department and Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center. Originally built to serve 22,000 patients per year, the emergency and trauma teams now treat more than 83,000 patients annually. A new facility will accommodate the growing demand and ensure that lifesaving care is available for each and every child who needs it.
