U-Haul Volunteers Pack 900 Food Boxes in 2 Hours

Jul 24, 2019

Team U-Haul came out to support longtime charity partner St. Mary’s Food Bank on June 29 in Phoenix. Giving back to the community was the main focus of the volunteer day.

The race was on as several participating companies were tasked with packing food items for families in need across Arizona. With a large group of volunteers on hand, Team U-Haul came ready to work.

Phoenix is known for its blistering summers that make it difficult for families to be outside. For the homeless community, being in the sun all day can be a dangerous proposition. St. Mary’s Food Bank is doing all they can to reach people in need.

U-Haul volunteer Tom Schmidt was eager to help and shared his thoughts on giving back.

“This time of the year it’s important to help the community,” Tom stated. “In addition to the heat, you shouldn’t have to worry about being hungry.”

Schmidt helped crush over 500 recyclable boxes with his bare hands. Team U-Haul settled for second place for most food boxes packed during the two-hour session; although helping families in need is always a win for U-Haul!

“It’s important that U-Haul is contributing to the community. Volunteering at St. Mary’s Food Bank is a great way to do that,” Schmidt concluded.
