U-Haul has been a proud sponsor of the Marine Corps Marathon for more than a decade, donating everything from U-Haul cargo vans to 26-foot trucks throughout the Marine Corps Marathon annual event series.
As part of the sponsorship, U-Haul is able to take part in the 26.2-mile race each fall. This year, 10 Team Members entered and completed the Marine Corps Marathon on Oct. 27 in Arlington, Va., just outside Washington, D.C.
Marine Corps Marathon: Fun and Run
“The team had a wonderful time in Washington, D.C., where most met each other for the first time,” said Monique Wantland, U-Haul wellness program manager. “They attended a welcome dinner upon arrival, and on Saturday went to the expo to pick up their bibs for the race. On Sunday, it was race time. The team did not let the pouring rain stop them from crossing that finish line. All 10 Team Members can now say they are Marine Corps Marathon finishers!
“Health and Wellness is an area of focus at U-Haul. The Healthier You program’s focus is to provide Team Members with the resources, tools and support to live their happiest and best lives. A marathon is sure a way to do it! These Team Members spent six months training and interacting with each other, as well as showing one another support and encouraging each other. This benefit brings wellness, team camaraderie and military support together to create an unforgettable weekend.”
Veteran Commitment
U-Haul, founded by a WWII Navy veteran and his wife in 1945, dedicates a portion of its community work and charity support to veteran organizations and initiatives. The Company also actively recruits veterans to be part of the U-Haul family, and gives them preference in the hiring process.
With Veterans Day approaching, U-Haul would like to thank our veterans and current service members for their courage, dedication, love of country, and the many freedoms they afford us.
