NEW YORK CITY — U-Haul representatives rang the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) opening bell on Jan. 24, an event that celebrated the Company’s recent name change and move to the exchange.
Team Members from U-Haul headquarters in Phoenix, including Royal Shoen, daughter of U-Haul CEO Joe Shoen, joined U-Haul field members based in New York to ring the bell.
Field members included store general managers Sam Baca and Emeny Hernandez-Bernard, as well as traffic control manager Domenico Tripodi. Also in attendance were Jason Berg, Chief Financial Officer, and Sebastien Reyes, Vice President of Communications.
Name Change and New Exchange
The transition from Nasdaq to NYSE was accompanied by the U-Haul parent company’s name change from AMERCO to U-Haul Holding Company. The change should make the name and market listing more easily identifiable with U-Haul – the parent company’s chief subsidiary. The name change was announced in October 2022.
“The majority of our customers are already transacting with us under the U-Haul name,” Berg stated. “This change may help with the marketability of our stock. Some investors have indicated that the investing public is unfamiliar with AMERCO, and that U-Haul is more recognizable and representative of what we do. The Company is listening and adapting to this feedback.
“AMERCO became the name of the (parent) Company in 1969. The acronym stands for Advanced Management Engineering and Research Company. U-Haul Holding Company better reflects the purpose of the parent Company and conveys where the organization’s focus is at.”
