U-Haul® announced six stores across parts of Iowa and western Illinois will offer 30 days of free storage and U-Box® container usage to residents impacted by Monday night’s severe weather.
The Quad Cities experienced 97 mph winds on Monday, causing a derecho that damaged homes and businesses. Residents of Davenport, Des Moines, Moline, Rock Island and other areas were left without power and experienced road closures due to debris from the thunderstorms.
Access to dry and secure self-storage units and portable storage containers is critical for communities during the recovery process.
“We’ve seen and heard of damage and power outages throughout the Quad Cities,” noted Mike Shorter, U-Haul Company of Eastern Iowa president. “We want to help our neighbors dealing with the aftermath of these storms as they prepare to clean up or rebuild their homes.”
The 30-day free offer applies to new self-storage and portable container rentals and is based on availability. U-Box containers can be delivered and picked up to residences at no additional cost as part of the disaster relief program.
People seeking more information or needing to arrange storage services should contact their nearest participating facility.
