For two decades, U-Haul has proudly sponsored and participated in the National Memorial Day Parade, honoring the brave service members who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.
This year marked a special milestone: the event’s 20th anniversary. U-Haul once again led the way with glowing patriotism along the streets of Washington, D.C.
Traditions of Remembrance
The 2025 parade featured the “United We Stand” SuperGraphic truck, with U-Haul Team Members distributing American flags and parade programs to thousands of spectators in attendance.
Following behind were vehicles adorning the rest of U-Haul Company’s Commemorative SuperGraphics paying tribute to each branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.
More than 100 U-Haul Team Members marched.
World War II veterans Harold Siebel and William Balabanow rode atop the U-Haul float with American Merchant Marine Veterans. Their presence served as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by the Greatest Generation.
“There is an overwhelming feeling of patriotism every time we turn on Constitution Avenue to start the parade, seeing the thousands of people lining the streets paying respect to our fallen heroes,” stated Pat Goodwin, U.S. Coast Guard veteran and U-Haul Company of Maryland (Co. 819) president. “It’s a beautiful tribute to our freedom and to the men and women who gave all to ensure these freedoms still exist today.
“I have been part of the National Memorial Day Parade since its conception 20 years ago. I am always very proud seeing the number of our employees that voluntarily show up each year to support America’s fallen heroes. Our team always brings the energy and excitement. It’s great that we feature several veterans riding on our parade float, and we pay tribute to the Armed Services with our U-Haul SuprGraphics, which always stand out. I am proud to be part of the U-Haul Team. We were founded by a veteran, employ veterans and have always honored our veterans.”
A Community United

From waving flags and interacting with patriotic neighbors, to sharing stories of service and spending time in reflection, this year’s National Memorial Day Parade was a testament to the bond between U-Haul and the military community.
“Having been with U-Haul for 11 years, I’ve proudly participated in the parade each of those years,” shared Ruby Huyn, a U.S. Marines Corps veteran and U-Haul Company of Maryland repair dispatch manager. “It’s an honor to serve our country and give back to the community by representing both U-Haul and our shared values in this meaningful tradition.
“For me, it’s more than just a tradition. It’s a way to honor those who have served before me, reflect on the value we stand for, and connect with our community in a meaningful way. Each year, I look forward to this event. It is a great way to bring our families, friends, loved ones, and fellow Team Members together. I enjoy the parade because not only do we get to represent U-Haul, but also the spirit of service, unity and patriotism. I’m grateful to work for a company that supports community involvement and encourages us to show our appreciation for our country.”
As Memorial Day concluded, one thing was clear: U-Haul, the original veteran company, could not be more thankful for the opportunities provided by our country’s heroes.
“I’m honored and proud to be participating in the Memorial Day Parade,” said Son Pham, U-Haul shop manager (Shop 248) in Hyattsville, Md. “It’s a meaningful opportunity to pay tribute to the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Their courage and service will never be forgotten.”
