H2O Hero U-Haul Helps St. Vincent de Paul with Water Drive on ABC15

Jun 19, 2025

As the Arizona summer brings extreme temperatures, Phoenix-based nonprofit St. Vincent de Paul is ramping up their lifesaving water distribution by providing 4,400 bottles of water a day to at-risk persons seeking hydration and relief.

This year, SVdP charity partner U-Haul® supported the water drive as a Sonoran Living H20 Heroes Partner with a $5,000 contribution. In addition, more than a dozen U-Haul Team Members volunteered for the ABC15 Arizona phone bank from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on June 18 to collect contributions from a generous TV audience.

A Phoenix-headquartered company since 1967, U-Haul is committed to assisting local and national organizations that help meet the most basic needs of the communities we serve.

Including the televised contributions from U-Haul and the Knights of Columbus, the two-hour water drive raised an impressive $9,343. Thank you to all those who gave.

Critical Need in the Desert Heat

For many Arizonans, access to water isn’t guaranteed. SVdP plays a vital role in ensuring that the homeless population and others needing a hand up stay hydrated and safe all year long … but especially during the summer months.

“St. Vincent de Paul has a proven track record of addressing both the immediate and long-term needs of Arizona’s at-risk populations, so partnering with them is an easy call for our team,” noted Jeff Lockridge, U-Haul Manager of Media & Public Relations.

“The water drive is an initiative we are involved with every year. We know how important it is when temperatures soar to 115 degrees. Our volunteers relish the opportunity to make a genuine impact while showing everyone watching on TV that U-Haul is a company that truly cares.”

How You Can Help Now

Even small contributions make a big difference to SVdP when just $10 will buy 68 bottles of water. You can support the mission by:

  • Drop off packs of water at SVdP locations across the Valley.
  • Give online to help SVdP purchase water for those experiencing homelessness.
  • Host a SVdP water drive at your place of business, church or other organization.
  • Donate at the register at any Basha’s or Food City throughout the month of June.
