U-Haul Team Members joined thousands of spectators and community partners at the 29th annual Phoenix Veterans Day Parade on Nov. 11 to honor the brave men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
U-Haul, headquartered in Phoenix since 1967, was among more than 90 parade entries comprised of veteran groups, companies, schools, civic clubs and other organizations wanting to salute our nation’s heroes.
The parade wound through a three-mile stretch of Midtown Phoenix with colorful floats, classic cars and marching bands all uniting to celebrate the service and sacrifice of the millions of American veterans.
“Just seeing how many people come out to support veterans is really special,” said Sabrina McMurdy, U-Haul Social Media specialist. “These events remind us of the strong community we have here in Phoenix. It’s awesome that U-Haul is part of that. A lot of our Team Members are veterans, and even those who can’t attend know that we’re out here showing appreciation for them.”
Continuing Commitment

The U-Haul commitment to veterans extends beyond parade day. The Company was founded in 1945 by a WWII Navy veteran and his wife. Many of the first U-Haul Team Members, local dealers and customers were veterans returning home from the war and looking to move to a better life.
Today, U-Haul recruits veterans for their refined skills, work ethic and service-first mindset. In addition to giving hiring preference and relocation solutions for active military families, U-Haul earmarks a substantial portion of its community support for partnerships with veteran-focused organizations.
Each year, Team Members from around the Valley march alongside U-Haul trucks donning the Company’s U.S. Armed Forces SuperGraphics while handing out American flags to cheering children and special “thank you” cards to veterans in attendance.
As U-Haul celebrates 80 years of service in 2025, events like the Phoenix Veterans Day Parade continue to reinforce the Company’s enduring appreciation for those who serve, and have served.
What U-Haul Veterans Said
“It means a great deal as a veteran to work for a company that cares so much about those who have served. The fact that U-Haul was started by a veteran speaks for itself. I love that we continue this tradition, and now I get to share it with my kids. They’ve walked in the parade with me for two years. As long as they’ll let me, I’ll keep doing it. What stands out most is the diversity of organizations that come together for a common cause, showing gratitude for our veterans.” — U.S. Navy Airman veteran Christopher Blackwell, U-Haul Retail hitch pro and content creator
“To be part of this parade and know that the Company backs its veterans is an honor. My favorite part is the camaraderie, meeting people from across the Company and coming together for a shared purpose.” — U.S. Air Force veteran John Quintero, U-Haul Technical Center electronic parts specialist and Team Member for more than 30 years
