U-Haul Ranked Among Top Military-Friendly Employers for 2015

Dec 15, 2014

Founded by a World War II Navy veteran and his wife in 1945, Phoenix-based U-Haul International, Inc., the iconic leader in the do-it-yourself moving industry, aggressively seeks to hire veteran talent and has found that hiring from the military community gives the Company a strategic, competitive advantage.

For the past six years, U-Haul has ranked high on the list of distinguished companies that offer the best job opportunities, hiring practices and retention programs for transitioning service members and spouses seeking civilian employment.

This year, U-Haul was ranked 58th out of 100 companies on the 2015 Military Friendly Employer list compiled by Victory Media, publisher of G.I. Jobs and Military Spouse. For the second consecutive year, U-Haul made the list of 50 companies designated as Military-Spouse Friendly Employers.

“Since 1945, U-Haul has relied heavily on hiring veterans to work for the organization and our success as a company is strongly tied to veterans being naturally successful leaders and executives,” U-Haul Executive Vice President Stuart Shoen said.

“U-Haul simply wants to give back to the veterans who have sacrificed so much for our freedom. Providing them with career opportunities is just one way for us to show our support.”

Military Friendly Employer survey results were independently tested by Ernst & Young, LLP, based upon the weightings and methodology established by Victory Media. Companies compete fiercely to earn the Military Friendly moniker, which gives them an advantage in recruiting highly coveted military-trained talent.

Each year, companies taking the survey are held to a higher standard than the previous year via improved methodology, criteria and weightings developed with the assistance of an advisory board of leaders in the military recruitment community. A list of board members can be found at MilitaryFriendly.com/board.

U-Haul will be showcased in the December edition of G.I. Jobs magazine and online at MilitaryFriendly.com.

“Our Military Friendly Employers list, now in its 12th year, constitutes those companies consistently hiring from the military community and offering leading programs to support service members and spouses,” Victory Media Vice President Sean Collins, a nine-year Navy veteran, said.

“Our 2015 Military Friendly Employers reported hiring more than 155,000 service members and spouses over the last 12 months, an increase of more than 35 percent over last year. This isn’t a new hiring pledge – it’s an update of ongoing hiring activities from the leaders in post-military employment.”
