U-Haul Partners with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Phoenix

Apr 26, 2016

U-Haul International aligns itself with charities that strive to serve the most basics human needs of food, clothing and shelter. We are happy to formally announce a new partnership between U-Haul and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Phoenix.

“We are super grateful for our relationship with U-Haul,” said Jerry Diaz, Director of Development at RMHC of Phoenix. “Being able to have people help us move our mission forward and helping families in need is very important to us. To have a great community partner like U-Haul really makes that much easier for us.”

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Phoenix at 501 E. Roanoke Ave. provides temporary housing for families that travel from all over to receive medical treatment for a child at world-renowned pediatric centers in the Valley.

The home was designed with a caring approach to help bring hope to families during these trying times. Whether guests stay one night for a single appointment or much longer through treatment and recovery, RMHC offers a comfortable and safe option.

“The mission of Ronald McDonald House of Phoenix to provide families with a ‘home away from home’ when their children face medical challenges aligns directly with U-Haul’s longstanding commitment to meet basic human needs within the communities we serve,” said Sebastien Reyes, U-Haul Director of External Communications.

“The U-Haul-sponsored room at the house on Roanoke Avenue is a tangible reminder of our commitment to these families during the most vulnerable time in their lives. The fact that our corporate headquarters is literally on the same street as the house makes each of these children’s brave fight all the more real for us.”

RMHC of Phoenix opened with 16 guest rooms. Over the years, it has continued to add rooms to serve more families as well as expand property facilities such as a kitchen, playground and library. These expansions were made possible by the generosity of the community and local donors. Today, the house has the capacity to accommodate 45 families per day.

U-Haul, which welcomed Ronald McDonald himself to its Charity Fair & Carnival in February, recently sponsored the remodeling of one of the guest rooms. In a month’s time, the room was completely refurbished with the help of U-Haul Team Members.

The carpet was torn up and replaced by beautiful tile flooring than extends to the baseboards. Two new queen-size beds and bedding were added along with decorations for the room. The room includes a closet and dressers, and a mini-fridge for guests to keep water and temperature-sensitive medications close at hand during their stay. U-Haul put its signature twist on the room with vintage black and white Company photos for a unique theme.

“The partnership with U-Haul is fabulous,” said Nancy Roach, Executive Director of RMHC of Phoenix.

“We run a really tight ship fiscally around here, and because we have a smaller staff it is great to have volunteers to help us make it a ‘home away from home’ for the families that we serve. Additionally, the room that U-Haul decorated for us is so warm and welcoming for the families when they get to stay in that room.”
