On March 25, The JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort & Spa transformed into an elegant black and white gala. The evening was for a meaningful cause. The 2017 Black & White Wish Ball – a Gala Event – hosted by 12 News Anchor Mark Curtis. Make-A-Wish Arizona, with the help of U-Haul and other partners, raised over $2 million dollars.
Granting Wishes
Jamie, 13, a cancer survivor and Wish Kid talked about her wish to go to Costa Rica.
Jamie, diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma, dreamed of going somewhere far away from her hospital room.
“I hoped to go somewhere with beautiful beaches but I also wanted to do action-packed stuff too, like hiking and zip lining,” said Jamie. “Costa Rica was the one place that had everything I was looking for, including a sloth sanctuary that I couldn’t wait to visit!”
This year’s Wish Ball, which celebrates the mission of Make-A-Wish Arizona by raising funds to
grant the wishes of Arizona children with life-threatening medical conditions, included a special opportunity for the more than 800 attendees. They were all directly involved with granting a wish.
With all those in attendance, Make-A-Wish Arizona surpassed their goal and proceeds from the prior year!
A Long-Time Partnership
U-Haul has partnered with Make-A-Wish Arizona since 2009. Every year, U-Haul reserves a table at the Wish Ball. In 2016, U-Haul happily bid on and won a lunch with Mayor Stanton.
In addition to donating the equipment to help move items for the event, U-Haul also prints programs for the annual Walk for Wishes.
As the founding chapter of the now international wish granting organization, Make-A-Wish Arizona continues to be a trailblazer and granted 365 wishes in the fiscal year 2016, a record in Arizona.
