7 Ways to Make the Most of Your U-Haul Internship

Jun 6, 2018

When college students are selected for a U-Haul internship, the experience is tremendously valuable. A U-Haul internship gives future professionals the opportunity to build skills for their resumes and meet people working in their preferred industry. Here are the seven ways to make the most out of your internship:

Punctuality

Always show up early, complete tasks by their assigned deadlines, and come prepared for meetings before they begin. As a U-Haul intern, you are not just a guest in a new atmosphere, but a coworker on whom others now rely.

Ask Questions

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. You are not expected to know everything. It’s good to seek advice and ask questions when they come up. Remember, there is no such thing as a dumb question.

Build Relationships

Forming professional relationships is always a beneficial offshoot of an internship, both in the present and future. It helps to network with as many people as you can, and then maintain those relationships after your U-Haul internship concludes.

Set Goals

While some internships are very structured, others may incorporate more self-reliance and personal initiative. So it’s best to spend time before you start a U-Haul internship setting goals that you want to accomplish. Whatever your goals, there will be a sense of accomplishment once you achieve them.

Translating Lessons

This tip may seem obvious; however, not a lot of interns apply what they’ve learned in the classroom to their internship. Even though a company may do things differently from what you initially learned in class, it’s always important to apply your knowledge to your work.

Communication is Key

In every job setting, communication is a must. Many managers will tell their employees that having strong communication skills is crucial. Whether you need extra time on a deadline, or you are unsure about how to do something, communication with your fellow Team Members and superiors is always essential.

Embrace Criticism

Don’t be afraid to receive constructive criticism in your internship. This allows you to understand your strengths and weaknesses are so that you can improve upon them before leaving.

When it comes to interning with U-Haul, or just about any other company, it’s always essential to implement these seven tips. To find available U-Haul internships, visit jobs.uhaul.com and search “internships.”
