U-Haul News Honored at IABC Gold Quill Awards

Jul 25, 2018

The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) awarded U-Haul News with the Award of Excellence at the 2018 Gold Quill Awards program. U-Haul received the honor in June at the Excellence Gala, part of the IABC World Conference in Montreal.

For more than 40 years, IABC’s Gold Quill Awards have recognized excellence in strategic communications worldwide. Their awards are acknowledged among the most prestigious in the industry.

“U-Haul News, print and online, has been published continuously since 1953 and is a significant component of our internal communications strategy,” said Tom Prefling, director of U-Haul Internal Communications.

“It is gratifying to see that the quality of work by our U-Haul News team has been recognized by its international peers.”

And the Winner is …

The IABC awards committee selected 258 entries as “world class.” Winners come from all over, representing a cross section of public and private sector organizations, both large and small. Almost 700 entries were considered this year.

“Only exceptional work earns an IABC Gold Quill Award,” stated Cindy Schmieg, chair of the awards committee. “Each entry is rigorously reviewed by multiple experienced communicators from around the world. The award winners represent our profession of ethical practitioners contributing to organizational outcomes.”

Since the first U-Haul News issue was published in 1953, the company magazine has been encouraging Team Members, neighborhood dealers and their families to enhance their pride in being part of U-Haul.

With a circulation of more than 50,000, U-Haul News reaches people throughout the U.S. and Canada. The diverse audience includes Team Members and dealers at more than 21,000 retail locations; technicians at U-Haul repair shops; welders and assemblers at U-Haul manufacturing plants; engineers at the U-Haul Technical Center in Tempe, Ariz.; and executives at the U-Haul Midtown Campus in Phoenix.

“We congratulate all the Gold Quill Award winners for their work and dedication to excellence in strategic communication,” said Stephanie Doute, executive director of IABC. “Their success is a testament to the fact that professional communicators create solid business outcomes for their organizations.”
