Migration Trends: London is No. 5 U-Haul Canadian Destination City

Jun 25, 2018

London is the No. 5 Canadian Destination City according to the latest U-Haul migration trends report, rising one spot from its ranking last year.

London’s one-way U-Haul truck arrivals in 2017 rose 10 percent year-over-year as it joined the top five busiest cities for incoming traffic among do-it-yourself movers.

“London is the hub of southwestern Ontario,” stated David Anstett, U-Haul Company of Western Ontario president. “Western University’s world-renowned business school brings young and highly skilled entrepreneurs to London.

“Because London is getting younger, downtown is home to an array of entertainment districts. The Budweiser Gardens arena serves as the center of the entertainment and sports district. The London Knights and Lightning share the venue with Broadway shows, concerts and many other events. There is always something to do in London.”

U-Haul has two Company-owned stores and 32 independent neighborhood dealers currently operating in the London city limits. Find U-Haul truck and trailer sharing locations in London at uhaul.com/locations.

Moving Season in London

U-Haul International, headquartered in Arizona, is counting down its top 10 Canadian Destination Cities as a prelude to “Moving Day” on July 1, one of the busiest dates for residential moves in Canada, and specifically Quebec. The No. 1 Destination City will be announced on June 29 via Twitter @uhaul and on myuhaulstory.com.

Vancouver is the No. 10 Destination City, Kitchener No. 9, Victoria No. 8, Hamilton No. 7 and Montreal No. 6. Find Destination Cities 11-50 below and be sure to check back throughout the countdown.

Rankings are based on the total number of arriving one-way U-Haul trucks into a city in the past calendar year. Destination Cities reflect the volume and regularity of DIY movers coming into a community. They do not account for departing one-way U-Haul trucks, and thus do not necessarily signify growth like U-Haul Growth Cities rankings.

U-Haul released its top 25 Canadian Growth Cities for 2017 in January.

U-Haul is the authority on migration trends thanks to its expansive network that blankets all 10 Canadian provinces and 50 states in the U.S. The geographical coverage from more than 21,000 U-Haul locations provides a comprehensive overview of where people are moving like no one else in the industry. Migration trends data is compiled from more than 1.7 million one-way U-Haul truck rental transactions that occur annually.
