FREETOWN — JP Creations owners Rick and Jamie Pereira share a longtime passion for recycling materials.

That passion become the basis for their new business, located on 63A South Main St. in Assonet. “That’s our main purpose, to not be as wasteful as most are,” Rick said.

Every piece of art sold by the business is made from repurposed materials that had been discarded by local businesses. Those items include a couch and bench made from discarded pallets. Rick noted that the pallets were pulled apart, with both the wood and nails being reused. Rick noted that most of the products sold by the company will be through special orders. “We’re going to make everything custom to the person and personalized if they want,” he said.

The couple, who have been married for about a year, met as employees of U-Haul. “We have almost 30 years of experience in U-Haul combined,” Rick said. They decided to branch out and start a business that they would both love. “We come here, and I don’t think either one of us really feels like we’re going to work,” Rick said.
