U-Haul Team Members continue to pay it forward, and by doing so are putting hundreds of turkeys on the dinner tables of less fortunate Arizona families for Thanksgiving.
On Friday, a refrigerated truck left the U-Haul Midtown Campus with 887 turkeys to be donated to longtime charity partner St. Mary’s Food Bank for the nonprofit’s annual Thanksgiving meal distribution to those in need around the Valley.
In the last five years alone, U-Haul Team Members have donated 4,364 to local families through St. Mary’s.
Generous Tradition Began 3 Decades Ago
The option to donate is available when U-Haul management gifts a Thanksgiving turkey to every Team Member across the company shortly before the holiday. U-Haul managers personally hand the turkeys to Team Members in their departments as a way to thank them for their contributions, and to wish them and their loved ones a Happy Thanksgiving.
This generous practice dates back three decades. It has become a beloved and appreciated tradition, enabling Team Members to have a complimentary turkey for their own family – though many choose to re-gift the bird to charity.
U-Haul Turkey Donation: Giving Matters
St. Mary’s depends on the turkey donation from the U-Haul Midtown Campus, the U-Haul Technical Center in Tempe, the Glendale Manufacture Company, and the Contact Center (including work-from-home Team Members) to fulfill the demand from hungry families hoping for a Thanksgiving turkey.
U-Haul centers its community efforts on helping organizations that assist people in meeting their basic human needs: food, clothing and shelter. This has long been a focus of U-Haul, which views affordable residential mobility as a basic need, and strives to make that service available throughout the U.S. and Canada at more than 22,000 truck- and trailer-sharing locations.
