Craig Ash Appointed President of U-Haul Co. of Eastern Iowa

Jan 18, 2023

When Craig Ash joined U-Haul in 2021 as an area field manager (AFM) for U-Haul Company of Eastern Iowa (Co. 932), he fell in love with the organization right off the bat.

“U-Haul is a superior company to be a part of, with endless growth opportunities for anyone who’s willing to strive for them,” Ash said. “When I saw firsthand how fairly and compassionately my fellow Team Members treated each other, and how much they genuinely enjoyed ‘Making Moving Easier’ for their communities, I knew that this was a place that I wanted to stay for the long haul.”

Ash served as an AFM until earlier 2022, when he transitioned into the role of marketing company president (MCP) for Co. 932. As a newly minted MCP, his two immediate goals are: understanding what each member of his team needs to fulfill their responsibilities; and using that knowledge to chart a successful course for Co. 932.

“I want every member of the Co. 932 team to feel like they can be open and honest with me about any issues they’re facing or concerns they might have,” Ash said. “Then, I want to use what I learn from each of them to construct a ‘game plan’ that will guide how I lead Co. 932 moving forward. If leadership isn’t responsive to the needs and concerns of the people who are making it happen every day on the front lines, then we’re not doing our jobs.”

Eager to learn

As someone who is still relatively new to U-Haul, Ash suggests that he has much left to master.

“Since I have not previously worked in a U-Haul store, repair shop or dealership, I’m well aware that I need to strengthen my know-how in these areas,” Ash said. “Luckily, there have been countless individuals who have taken the time to show me the ropes and answer any questions I’ve had. It’s been a privilege to meet people throughout Co. 932 who possess wisdom that they’ve gained from years, and often decades, of U-Haul experience. I’m willing and eager to learn from each one of them.”

U-Haul Co. of Eastern Iowa executive assistant (EA) Laura Spengler has known Ash from day one of his U-Haul journey.

“Laura has been there for me through thick and thin ever since I started,” Ash said. “I am grateful to work alongside her as we strive to serve the rest of Co. 932, and to learn from her dedicated and enthusiastic work ethic. She is a phenomenal Team Member and source of support, and it’s been an absolute honor to know her.”

Driven to succeed

Area District Vice President Kellin Sybrant noted: “As a new MCP, Craig brings a professional, positive and ‘let’s get it done’ attitude that inspires and motivates everyone on his team. He is laser-focused on providing the best possible experience for customers, all while ensuring that everyone in Co. 932 has the tools and support that they need to reach their full potential.

“Co. 932 is growing rapidly and is reaching new heights of customer convenience and quality service each day. I trust that under Craig’s leadership, this growth will carry on at a rapid and sustainable pace. I look forward to witnessing the amazing things they’ll do.”
