U-Haul Volunteers Serve Dinner to People in Need at Andre House

Mar 10, 2025

U-Haul Team Members prepared and served 562 meals on Feb. 11 at André House, helping to feed Phoenix’s homeless population and other guests seeking a hot meal.

The local nonprofit helps those in need by providing meals, showers and more at no cost. One of the hallmarks of André House is the dinner service that they offer six nights a week.

As a longtime charity partner, U-Haul frequently provides volunteers to help prepare and serve these dinners. On this night, 10 generous volunteers from Phoenix-headquartered U-Haul International showed up to give back to their community and make “spaghetti night” a memorable event.

“What an Impact”

After volunteering at André House for the first time in August, Jesse Duran, a U-Haul Hitch Central agent, has been going back there monthly.

“I really enjoy volunteering, and I am happy that I found a place that I could help out at on a monthly basis,” Duran said. “It’s always a great feeling to hear direct feedback from some of the individuals experiencing homelessness about what an impact the nonprofit makes in their day-to-day lives.”

Duran was in charge of preparing vegetables, setting tables and post-meal clean-up of the dining hall.

First-Time Experience

Zrebric Humphrey, a U-Haul Inventory Valuations and Processes manager, volunteered at André House for the first time.

“For me, it was more than just giving back,” Humphrey said. “It was a reminder of the impact compassion and support can have.”

U-Haul promotes community support and encourages its Team Members to pursue volunteer opportunities, both on their own and through the Company’s many nonprofit partners.

The industry leader in do-it-yourself moving and self-storage, U-Haul regularly organizes group volunteer activities with André House and likeminded Valley charities to enrich the communities in which it does business, in addition to fostering teamwork and collaboration.
