U-Haul Food Drive Benefits Arizona Nonprofit St. Vincent de Paul

May 14, 2025

Team Members donated more than 2,500 pounds of food and water during a recent food drive at U-Haul® headquarters in Phoenix to support local charity partner St. Vincent de Paul.

SVdP, with the help of partners like U-Haul and caring volunteers, makes a tremendous impact on the Arizona community by providing food, clothing, housing, and medical and dental services to those in need.

In addition to the food and water collections, U-Haul made a $3,000 monetary donation as part of its annual support package, which will enable SVdP to fill and deliver 60 family food boxes that include cooking essentials; dry goods like pastas, cereals, rice and beans; canned goods including soups; fruits; vegetables; sauces; meats like chicken and ground beef; and, if available, powdered milk.

The food drive reestablished U-Haul as a member of the “1,000 Pounds Club.” By collecting half a ton of food in a single drive, the donation ensures at least 40 families receive provisions of shelf-stable food for their pantries.

Volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul

Some 40 members of the U-Haul Legal department served meals to guests of SVdP on April 22 and 24.

With 20 Team Members volunteering each day, U-Haul provided nourishment to hundreds of community members facing food insecurity.

“It’s always nice giving back to the community, and it’s especially fun when we’re able to do so with our U-Haul family,” noted Chris Wateland, U-Haul Assistant General Counsel.

“I’ve been bringing my 14-year-old daughter and it’s fun spending time with her and meeting new people from U-Haul,” said Kristine Campbell, U-Haul General Counsel. “We love volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul.”

SVdP’s daily care for at-risk Arizonans, including those facing homelessness, extends beyond singular acts of goodwill. The Workforce Opportunities program, which includes everything from assistance with preparing resumes and skill training to finding and securing jobs, is just one of many ways SVdP is changing lives.
