The undisputed queen of daytime talk show said her goodbyes to Chicago last Thursday. Oprah Winfrey announces HARPO Studios will close and she will be making the move to West Hollywood. The goodbye consisted of a mix of nostalgia and excitement.
After nearly 30 years in Chicago, Oprah told The Hollywood Report:
[Chicago has] been everything for me. I’ve spent more hours in this building than I have any other building on Earth. We were here when there was nothing but hoes and rats on the street, and now it’s one of the hottest neighborhoods.
The time had come to downsize this part of the business and to move forward. It will be sad to say goodbye, but I look ahead with such a knowing that what the future holds is even more than I can see.
Oprah will be running her empire of shows in Hollywood at OWN headquarters. She says her focus will be on growing OWN, the Oprah Winfrey Network. The network is an entertainment television channel produced by Harpo Productions and Discovery Communications.
Chicago Tribune Editorial Cartoonist Scott Stantis created the cartoon below depicting Oprah wearing a shirt with a U-Haul truck on it. Oprah is making moves to the next chapter of her life and this cartoon captures that.
