AT-8 Miles Per Hour: U-Haul Tows Time Machine

Apr 3, 2015

You might be thinking, “What’s an AT-8?” Well, if you’ve seen “Back to the Future,” you’d know that Doc Brown’s DeLorean needed to get up to 88 miles per hour to travel through time. Get it? AT-8. U-Haul customer Mike Carey would be right on top of this pun.

When Carey stopped by U-Haul Moving and Storage of Lancaster, California, his interesting ride had everyone’s faces pressed to the windows. It’s not often that you see a DeLorean, let alone one that has been customized to look like the time machine in that classic 1980s movie.

Whoa. This is heavy.

Carey, who works as an aircraft fabricator for a living, spent the last decade restoring and customizing his DeLorean. His father was a mechanic, and working on cars has always been a hobby of Carey’s. When he purchased the DeLorean, he knew he wanted to take the restoration to the next level.DeLorean Time Machine

“My job and background definitely enabled me to customize the car,” Carey declared. “I’ve created some custom-made brackets. All the interior and exterior lighting works just like in the film. The time circuits are programmable, and there are sound effects from the movie.”

Just like Doc Brown said in the movie, “The way I see it, if you’re going to build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some style?”

Carey’s DeLorean has clearly been to the future as well as the past. The addition of a “Mr. Fusion” reactor on the back is proof of that. (Let us know if the Cubs win the World Series!)

Where we’re going, we don’t need roads.

Carey might not need roads for where he’s going in his time machine, but in between, he needs a bit of assistance from U-Haul. Carey, who frequently travels to various shows, corporate events and parties, likes to rent U-Haul auto transports to save wear and tear on the DeLorean.DeLorean on a U-Haul Auto-transport

“When it’s a long distance, I use U-Haul equipment,” Carey asserted. “I would buy one of your auto transports if they were for sale because they are so easy to use. It’s the most user-friendly trailer there is.”

We have to agree, Mike!

Hmm. What will the moving industry be like in the future? U-Haul hover-trucks and trailers would be pretty cool.
