It’s taken a little more than a year, but U-Haul Moving and Storage of New Center is open for business in Detroit. Last Thursday, we passed our final building inspection and were given a temporary certificate of occupancy. The store opened its doors to customers Wednesday morning 8/21.
It’s been a whirlwind week of activity. Hats off to Project Manager Tony Balcerzak and General Manager Anthony Jones. Their teams finished paving the lot on Wednesday, stocked the showroom with products on Thursday and began moving equipment onto the lot on Friday morning.
“It was like a ground crew at a ball game,” Tony laughed. “We had everything ready to go. As soon as we got the nod from the inspector, Anthony and his team sprang into action. They had the displays in the showroom in less than an hour and were stocking them with product.
“It’s sobering, and amazing, to think back to a year ago and the condition the building was in, and to see it today,” Tony continued. “It’s really fulfilling that we’ve been able to pull this off and contribute to the city, and know that I was part of it.”
While Tony’s job is almost finished, Anthony’s is just beginning.
“Our goal is to provide our customers with a level of service that is unmatched. We have state of the art products and services no one is even close to having,” Anthony declared. “We want everyone to know that we are here to stay. We’ve invested in giving back to city and we welcome everyone to come visit and see what we have done.”
This grand old building has new life and is ready to serve the citizens of Detroit for another 90 years!
I’ll have a video this weekend. And, we’re working out the details for an official grand opening event in September.
Stay tuned!
