U-Haul Offers Texas Tornado Victims Free Storage

Dec 29, 2015

DALLAS (Dec. 29, 2015) — The U-Haul Companies of South Central Dallas and East Dallas are offering 30 days of free self-storage and U-Box container usage to residents affected by the destructive tornadoes that touched down throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth Metro area in recent days.

“The tornadoes that recently ran through Texas have devastated the communities we serve,” U-Haul area district vice president Jeff Singleton said. “I hope these efforts will provide assistance to residents who need help.”Cars are thrown on top of each other after a tornado went through in east Garland early Saturday evening December 26, 2015.

In Dallas county at least a dozen people died in tornado-related traffic accidents Saturday, after an EF4 twister with up to 180 mph winds flipped a dozen or so vehicles into the air.

“U-Haul has been a part of these neighborhoods for many years, and we’d like to reach out and help these families with free storage,” Singleton added. “We will continue to help our friends and neighbors during their time of need.”

U-Haul self-storage locations can be found at uhaul.com. Families needing more information about the 30 days of free self-storage assistance should contact the following U-Haul marketing companies. You can also call the U-Haul Company of South Central Dallas in Grand Prairie at (800) 492-5203 or the U-Haul Company of East Dallas in Garland at (888) 457-1091.

U-Haul stores have much-needed supplies available to help with storm recovery, such as boxes, tarps, propane and propane tanks. U-Haul urges customers to stop in to ensure that their propane tanks are topped off, since propane is good to have on hand in the event of long-term power outages. An onlooker takes pictures of the damage after a tornado hit Garland, Texas on December 27, 2015.

With U-Box portable moving and self-storage containers, you can conveniently pick up our custom-designed trailer and take your U-Box container with you. U-Haul also can store your U-Box container in our secure warehouses or even pick up and deliver it to a location of your choice.

In addition to the 30 days of free self-storage being offered, people who need boxes can take advantage of the U-Haul Take a Box, Leave a Box Program. The program enables customers to return their reusable boxes and allows others to take them as needed – FREE. U-Haul encourages anyone who has any type of reusable box to drop it off at the nearest U-Haul location and allow another family to reuse the box.
