U-Haul of Newnan Showcases New Storage Facility

Apr 13, 2016

NEWNAN, Ga. — If the Goliath-sized scissors used for the ribbon-cutting didn’t impart that April 7 was big day for U-Haul in Coweta County, then the smile on Jon Scoville’s face certainly did.

U-Haul welcomed close to 50 Team Members, Chamber of Commerce representatives, public officials, construction specialists and other guests to the official grand opening of its pristine 498-unit storage facility at 3003 E. Hwy. 34, the latest customer-friendly addition to U-Haul Moving & Storage of Newnan.

“I was very pleased with the turnout,” said Scoville, U-Haul Company of Western Georgia president. “Everyone was mingling, getting involved and asking questions. We were able to give clarification on a few things to the Chamber of Commerce representatives we had here. It was a very positive outcome.”

The state-of-the-art facility began accommodating customers last July once construction was completed, but the lunch and ribbon-cutting ceremony offered Scoville, general manager Chris Hill and U-Haul an opportunity to invite everyone to explore the building firsthand.

U-Haul continues to seek the necessary county approval for additional customer conveniences at the Newnan property, including propane; a canopy covering the equipment arrival and return area; the ability to have its trucks seen by potential customers driving on East Highway 34; and the ability to offer covered RV/boat/vehicle storage.

“Everybody left here with a smile on their face,” Hill said. “I think we showed everyone that we’re here for the community and we’re not going anywhere. I think this store is going to grow in the next year and be completely full on storage – then we can utilize the rest of this property and erect another (storage) building on it. I think that’s what the county needs and what the county deserves: more options.

“My team here is top notch. Most of them have been with me for a long time and they’ve been putting in the hours, blood, sweat and tears. I know I spend a lot of time here, but they’re alongside me making this place what it is.”

Scoville spoke about the Company’s desire to serve Coweta County through great customer care and a full line of U-Haul products and services.

There were a number of VIPs he thanked for attending, among them Bob Blackburn (Coweta County Commissioner, District 3); Robert Tolleson (Coweta County Director of Planning and Zoning); Newnan-Coweta Chamber representatives Bri Sanders, Ashley Biles, Mel Kendricks and Lynn Love; and Tomco Construction, a Newnan-based company that worked on the new facility.

“We still have a few more hurdles … to give our U-Haul customers the best experience their money can pay for,” Scoville told the crowd before the ribbon-cutting ceremony. “Right now we’re going to enjoy the fruits of the hard labor put into this, and mostly just enjoy the customers. We’re going to bring 20 to 30 jobs – part-time jobs and several full-time jobs – to this community. That’s what it’s all about.”

Scoville and Blackburn cut the ribbon, after which guests ventured inside to sign a vintage 4×6 U-Haul SV trailer, circa 1982. The trailer will remain in the Newnan facility for customers to see.

“This trailer is older than me,” said Sanders, the Chamber’s youngest representative at age 26. “This is the neatest thing I’ve seen in a while.

“Ribbon-cuttings are definitely a way for people to know what’s going on in the community, and I feel like U-Haul was right on time. We’re so happy to have them and now that they’re here, we want to help them grow their business.”
