U-Haul is Matching Donations up to $50K to Assist Families Escaping Homelessness

U-Haul upped the ante in the fight against homelessness by adding Detroit-based nonprofit Humble Design as a corporate charitable partner.

In doing so, U-Haul issued a public challenge: For every dollar donated to Humble Design, U-Haul will match it – up to $50,000!

U-Haul is pleased to announce that more than $13,110 has been donated through the U-Haul Humble Design donation page so far. But there is a long way to go to maximize the matching funds. These funds will help more formerly homeless families achieve the dignity that comes with having their new residences furnished.

Humble Design is a Detroit-based nonprofit that U-Haul has added as a corporate charitable partner.

Humble Design Fueled by U-Haul, as it is now termed, began seven years ago. It grew from the idea that decent families emerging from homelessness in Metro Detroit deserve to come home to basic necessities. Some of which are: tables to eat at, sofas to sit on and beds to sleep in. The organization has assisted more than 670 families.

With the support of U-Haul, that number will continue to swell while expanding this noble pursuit to more cities.

Humble Design Earned a Lot of Fans after Appearing on NBC’s Today

Morgan Radford of NBC’s Today show visited Detroit to profile the work Humble Design is doing. The story aired nationally on Aug. 28.

Through the generous donations of businesses and individuals, Humble Design’s dedicated staff and volunteers address the primary furnishings that families require, like beds. Additionally, they add the personal touches that make a house a home. Think of: individualized wall art, curtains, rugs, kitchen appliances and children’s needs such as toys, books, stuffed animals and sporting goods.

How much of an impact is the work Humble Design Fueled by U-Haul is making? Up to half of all families that leave shelters return to homelessness within one year. But just 1 percent for Humble-assisted families return to shelters in that time.

In conclustion, will you join the fight against homelessness and help Humble Design take advantage of U-Haul Company’s matching donations? You can change the lives of less fortunate families today.
