Building Futures, U-Haul Volunteers Paint Home

Dec 19, 2016

TEMPE, ARIZ. – It was a chilly and crisp morning at 7am on Saturday, November 12th when 17 Team U-Haul volunteers gathered in front of a previously built Habitat for Humanity home. The home needed some updating and U-Haul volunteers stepped in to help.

The day’s mission was to further the progress of a home with a fresh layer of paint. After a quick introduction of the project and a safety briefing, Team U-Haul volunteers, their friends and family got to work. Paint brushes in hand, volunteers painted the trimming and body of the house.

Volunteer Experience

“The Habitat volunteer day was the first time I had worked with Habitat so I had no idea what to expect,” said Michelle Vukov-Mikel, Administrative Assistant at the U-Haul Tech Center and food drive captain for the St. Mary’s Food Bank Food Drive held at U-Haul Corporate offices in Phoenix and Tempe in September.

Habitat for Humanity

“” I was very pleased with how many volunteers showed up and how organized it was.  Their team leader was great to work with.  Seeing the family there and knowing that we were able to help them out made me feel good about myself. It made me feel good about what I was able to do to help them.  Doing for others gives me a sense of accomplishment and gratitude…”, Vukov-Mikel added.

Longtime Partners

For many years, U-Haul International has focused on the endorsement of social programs by partnering with agencies and events that directly serve the most basic of human needs. These needs include food, clothing and shelter. Habitat for Humanity’s mission is one that focuses on building futures. This is done by instilling strength, stability, self-reliance, and shelter – all missions that resonate with U-Haul and it’s employees.

A team favorite, U-Haul Team members volunteer with Habitat at least twice a year. Volunteers help with homes at various stages of completion.  Furthermore, U-Haul donates the use of trucks on occasions when the charity is need.

Team U-Haul volunteers worked diligently on the Tempe home. After only a few short hours, volunteers completely transformed the look of the home. Overall, it was a great day giving back to the community and this special family.

Thanks to the hard work of these Team Members, their family and friends, a family. A family now has a revitalized home to continue to live in and build a better future.
