U-Haul 2016 Canadian Destination City No. 7: Vancouver

Jun 22, 2017

Vancouver is the No. 7 U-Haul Canadian Destination City for 2016, keeping the position it held in the 2015 rankings, according to the latest U-Haul migration trends report.

Vancouver witnessed a 10.5 percent slide in annual arrivals and yet remained the seventh busiest Canadian market for incoming U-Haul trucks.

U-Haul Destination Cities are ranked according to the total number of arriving one-way U-Haul trucks to a city in the past calendar year. Destination Cities do not account for departing traffic and thus do not necessarily reflect growth like U-Haul Growth Cities. Destination Cities reflect the volume and regularity of do-it-yourself movers coming into a community.

Cultured and Diverse

“Vancouver is consistently rated as one of the most livable cities in the world thanks to our strong and stable economy, safe neighbourhoods, vibrant culture, and more,” Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson stated. “Our city is also known for our remarkable diversity, and we’re proud to continue to welcome new residents from across Canada and around the world. It’s an honour to be named one of U-Haul’s top 10 destinations in Canada, a ranking which reflects the continuing success of our city.”

U-Haul has two Company-owned stores and 22 independent dealers within the city limits. It also offers many more locations to fulfill the needs of suburbs outside Vancouver. Find U-Haul truck and trailer sharing locations in Hamilton at uhaul.com/locations.

U-Haul is the authority on migration trends thanks to its expansive network that blankets all 50 states and 10 Canadian provinces. The geographical coverage from more than 21,000 U-Haul locations provides a comprehensive overview of where people are moving like no one else in the industry. Migration trends data comes from more than 1.7 million one-way U-Haul truck rental transactions that occur annually.

What They are Saying about Vancouver

“Vancouver is becoming a really popular place to live. There is a real peace, love and granola feeling here. We have trendy vegan restaurants and our city is bike-friendly. It’s no surprise people are moving here in droves. Do-it-yourself movers are choosing Vancouver because of the diversity. We have a great downtown, but there are also mountains nearby. People are attracted to the outdoor activities as well as the big-city experience.” — Michelle Benson, President, U-Haul Company of Vancouver and Vancouver Island
