Hamilton is the No. 7 Canadian Destination City according to the latest U-Haul migration trends report, rising one spot from its ranking last year.
Hamilton’s one-way U-Haul truck arrivals in 2017 slipped 9 percent year-over-year, but it still remained one of the top 10 busiest cities for incoming traffic among do-it-yourself movers.
“I’m not surprised that Hamilton remains a prominent destination for incoming U-Haul trucks,” stated John Fisher, U-Haul Company of Hamilton president. “Hamilton has an arts, culture and entertainment scene that is continuing to expand. Our city is a popular choice for many self-movers.
“Hamilton represents a vibrant community and strives to be the best place to start a family. There are new housing developments up on the mountain, and the cost of living is relatively affordable. Since we are between Toronto and Niagara, many commuters move here to save money. The trains and expressways offer convenient ways to travel.”
U-Haul has three Company-owned stores and 24 independent neighborhood dealers currently operating in the Hamilton city limits. Find U-Haul truck and trailer sharing locations in Hamilton at uhaul.com/locations.
Moving Season in Hamilton
U-Haul International, headquartered in Arizona, is counting down its top 10 Canadian Destination Cities as a prelude to “Moving Day” on July 1, one of the busiest dates for residential moves in Canada, and specifically Quebec. The No. 1 Destination City will be announced on June 29 via Twitter @uhaul and on myuhaulstory.com.
Vancouver is the No. 10 Destination City, Kitchener No. 9 and Victoria No. 8. Find Destination Cities 11-50 below and be sure to check back throughout the countdown.
Rankings are based on the total number of arriving one-way U-Haul trucks into a city in the past calendar year. Destination Cities reflect the volume and regularity of DIY movers coming into a community. They do not account for departing one-way U-Haul trucks, and thus do not necessarily signify growth like U-Haul Growth Cities rankings.
U-Haul released its top 25 Canadian Growth Cities for 2017 in January.
U-Haul is the authority on migration trends thanks to its expansive network that blankets all 10 Canadian provinces and 50 states in the U.S. The geographical coverage from more than 21,000 U-Haul locations provides a comprehensive overview of where people are moving like no one else in the industry. Migration trends data is compiled from more than 1.7 million one-way U-Haul truck rental transactions that occur annually.
