U-Haul Wins National Best and Brightest Award

Mar 15, 2019

Wellness is defined as “the quality or state of being in good health, especially as an actively sought goal.”

U-Haul Team Members across North America are supporting one another in their wellness journeys, empowering others to reach their goals. This hard work is being recognized.

U-Haul recently won the prestigious National Best and Brightest in Wellness Award. This is presented by the National Association for Business Resources (NABR) to organizations that “promote a culture of wellness; and those that plan, implement and evaluate efforts in employee wellness to make their business and the community a healthier place to live and work.”

U-Haul and other companies honored for their achievements in 2018 are in the online edition of Corp! Magazine. In addition, winners will be guests at the National Best and Brightest Summit on Sept. 15-19 in Chicago.

A Company that Cares

“Throughout U-Haul, Team Members have wide-ranging access to programs that support healthy living and work-life balance,” U-Haul wellness marketing manager Monique Wantland said. “U-Haul values the growth and development of its Team Members. As part of this mission, the Healthier U program seeks to promote this growth and development in the areas of mindset, nutrition, fitness and health.”

Healthier U offers a variety of programs, services and incentives designed to help Team Members cultivate healthy habits as well as attitudes. These include lunch seminars; active breaks throughout the work day; reimbursements for gym fees and registered dietitian visits; and more.

“The program is based on one simple fact: we care about the health and well-being of every single U-Haul Team Member and their families,” U-Haul Chief of Staff Jessica Lopez stated. “We want to make a positive difference in the lives of our Team Members and in their respective communities. That is why we do what we do.”

Only the Beginning

The Company’s dedication to creating and also spreading a healthy culture has caught the eye of wellness proponents. In recent years, U-Haul has received the American Heart Association’s Fit-Friendly Gold Award; appeared on Comparably’s 2018 list for Best Companies for Work-Life Balance; and also has won regional Healthiest Employers awards across the country, just to share a few honors.

While these awards showcase the incredible work being done at U-Haul, Lopez declared that it’s only the beginning.

“In the near future, we’ll be creating a series of goals and targets that measure the short- and long-term impact of various aspects of the Healthier U program, such as attendance at wellness-related events, participation in wellness-based initiatives, and policies focused on levels of nicotine usage and BMI,” Lopez stated. “In addition, we plan on placing an even greater emphasis on the importance of mental health and stress management through leadership training and other initiatives.

“Receiving the National Best and Brightest in Wellness Award signifies that we are on the right path as a Company. … U-Haul is honored to be recognized for our efforts to spread the culture of health. Going forward, our goal is to continually improve the Healthier U program, as well as to address the needs and wants of our fellow Team Members.”

As the award denotes, U-Haul is proud to be among the best and brightest in spreading a culture of health. Finally, as more Team Members seek to incorporate healthy habits, the U-Haul culture of wellness will continue to grow.
