U-Haul Earns 2 More Awards as Top Health and Wellness Employer

May 3, 2019

U-Haul International continues to be one of the healthiest employers in the Valley. The Phoenix-headquartered DIY moving and self-storage company was recognized as one of the top 2019 honorees in the large business classification at The Valley’s Healthiest Employers Award breakfast on May 2 at the Hyatt Regency in Scottsdale.

On May 1, one day earlier, U-Haul received the Platinum Award from the Healthiest Arizona Worksites Program during a ceremony at Phoenix College. It is the fourth consecutive year HAWP is honoring U-Haul, and the second straight year it gave U-Haul recognition in the top category for implementing and measuring health and wellness initiatives in the workplace and the community.

“U-Haul is proud to empower Team Members to stay healthy, engaged and active,” says Jessica Lopez, U-Haul Chief of Staff. “Through our Healthier U program, Team Members have wide-ranging access to incentives that support healthy living and work-life balance.

“We understand the importance and value of our Team Members. It’s simple; we take care of them and they take care of our business.”

This marks the third consecutive year U-Haul is acknowledged as one of the Valley’s healthiest large businesses by the Phoenix Business Journal. Twenty-seven companies in the 1,500-plus employee group are honorees this year.

Program Highlights

In addition to expanded features of the Healthier U program (which offers Team Members the chance to pursue better wellness through health, mindset, nutrition and fitness), the Midtown Farmers Market hosted by U-Haul enjoyed a successful second year.

The seasonal monthly event takes place at the U-Haul Midtown Campus. It provides Team Members and the Midtown community with a chance to support sustainable food practices and local producers.

More Improvements to Come

Every year, U-Haul continues to grow its health initiatives in an effort to become one of the nation’s healthiest employers. U-Haul will soon expand its Midtown Campus with a state-of-the-art conference and fitness center for Team Member use.

U-Haul also offers Team Members a new version of the Get Fit incentives program. The program now has three levels of participation. Company reimbursement levels are set by the number of times a Team Member visits a gym each quarter.

“We decided to create three levels to make sure we are meeting Team Members where they are on their fitness journeys,” explains Monique Wantland, U-Haul Wellness program manager. “Maybe the gym is new to someone, and visiting the gym 30 times in one quarter seems impossible … with the new Get Fit program, you can start with 10 gym visits and work your way up.”

U-Haul is a leading employer choice among young professions seeking a health-conscious company to build a career. From its revamped corporate café and healthy vending machines, to its regular fitness challenges and annual U-Haul Active Day, more and more job seekers are finding U-Haul as a wellness destination for today’s dynamic and mindful employees.
