Enriching St. Louis: Kurt Warner Foundation, U-Haul Move Family into Home

Aug 6, 2019

U-Haul Company of St. Louis continued its longstanding partnership with Kurt Warner’s First Things First Foundation and its Homes for the Holidays project by helping to make a local family’s dreams of home ownership come true on the heels of Independence Day weekend.

A deserving local family received the surprise of a lifetime as they opened the door to their new home. The residence is a Habitat for Humanity home and is full of furnishings thanks, in part, to U-Haul.

It wasn’t your typical closing day. When the family arrived, they were greeted by NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner, his foundation’s team, U-Haul volunteers and other caring companies that donated their time and money to support the cause. Family members thought they were just picking up the keys to their new home. Instead, seeing they had a furnished, decorated home rather than an empty one came as a huge surprise.

Meet the Family

This single mother of four daughters has endured a difficult journey. She is an immigrant from Somalia and is working two jobs to support her family. Additionally, she and her family contributed “sweat equity” to help build their new Habitat for Humanity home. Despite her hardships, this mom has shown her girls the meaning of work ethic and responsibility. Her example should empower her daughters to dream big and never give up on their goals.

It is these community-contributing, resilient single-parent families that the Kurt Warner Foundation seeks to assist with a hand up — not a handout.

Finally, Team U-Haul is proud to help provide this St. Louis-area family with a fresh start. U-Haul has proudly supported Kurt Warner’s First things First Foundation for 12-plus years, and assists with Homes for the Holidays projects in both Missouri and Arizona.
