Tropical Storm Bertha: U-Haul Offers Free Self-Storage in North Carolina and Virginia

May 27, 2020

U-Haul® is proactively offering 30 days of free self-storage and U-Box® container usage to North Carolina and Virginia residents forecasted to be in the path of Tropical Storm Bertha.

Potential flooding and strong winds are expected to impact a wide area as the storm moves north.

“We encourage these communities to prepare for the storm by taking advantage of our free self-storage disaster relief program,” said Jeffrey Messenger, U-Haul Company of Southern Virginia president. “We want to ensure our neighbors have a dry, secure place to store their belongings.”

U-Haul stores also offer needed supplies to help with storm recovery like boxes, tarps, propane and propane tanks. Customers should ensure their tanks are topped off since propane is good to have in the event of long-term power outages.

U-Haul offered one month of free self-storage on March 12 to college students whose school schedules were interrupted by COVID-19. That offer is ongoing across the U.S. and Canada.

As an essential service provider, U-Haul remains open to meet the needs of customers and communities.
