U-Haul Active Day Becomes Virtual Active Week in 2020

Sep 28, 2020

U-Haul Active Day took on a new vibe this year. The Company-wide health and wellness initiative, which was introduced five years ago to promote a culture of fitness by getting #uhaulactive, needed a solution to the obstacles posed by COVID-19.

Typically a designated day each Septemeber to celebrate healthy living with group fun and physical activity, the 2020 version encompassed a full week’s worth of challenges for Team Members. It also enabled each individual to exercise on their own time, and in their own socially distanced venue.

Active and Responsible

“U-Haul Active Day is one of the highlights of the year. But with COVID-19, we wanted to ensure we were being socially responsible and ensuring the safety of our team. So we changed it to Virtual U-Haul Active Week,” explained Monique Wantland, U-Haul wellness program manager.

The virtual program extended many options for Team Members and their families to get involved. Activities included attending a webinar; virtual fitness classes; a challenge to walk 8,000 steps each day for one week; and access to daily discussions on the U-Haul “Heathier You” program pillars: mindset, health, fitness, nutrition and financial well-being.

“This week was all about health and wellness,” Wantland continued. “Doing it virtual allowed us to do a lot of things we couldn’t do in the past, and involve a lot of Team Members. Healthier You’s mission is to provide tools, support and guidance for Team Members to live their healthiest and happiest life. This year, we all got #uhaulactive, learned about our patriotic and storied history during the Company’s 75th anniversary, and showed great teamwork during challenging circumstances.”
