U-Haul Team Members Give Over $5,600 to St. Mary’s Food Bank

May 1, 2024

St. Mary’s Food Bank® was presented a check for $5,687 on April 26, compliments of U-Haul® Team Member contributions over the last year.

U-Haul Team Members have the chance each year to donate a fraction of their paychecks to one of the many charities the Company supports.

Arizona-headquartered U-Haul International has been a longtime supporter of its Phoenix neighbor St. Mary’s, one of the largest U.S. food banks. U-Haul provides support through monetary and food donations as well as volunteer assistance, empowering St. Mary’s to feed more at-risk families.

St. Mary’s distributes 300,000 pounds of food across 81,000 square miles of Arizona every day.

Fighting Food Insecurity

This year’s U-Haul Team Member contribution will go toward helping various St. Mary’s programs such as Our Kids Cafe®, School Pantry and Backpack programs, The Community Kitchen hands-on training program, LIFT (a hands-on training covering the warehouse and logistics industry), and emergency food boxes.

According to Feeding America, St. Mary’s parent company, more than 44 million people in the U.S. face food insecurity. Various scenarios can lead to food insecure households such as job loss, an accident, or even an illness. U-Haul Team Members are proud to play a role in helping St. Mary’s in the fight against hunger.

Community Goals

U-Haul enriches the communities in which it does business by assisting charities that address the most basic human needs: food, clothing and shelter. This has long been the scope of the Company’s community outreach because U-Haul views mobility as a basic need for every family, and works to keep rental costs low to meet that need.

Founded by a WWII-era Navy veteran and his wife in 1945, U-Haul is also a proud supporter of many military and veteran groups that provide for these basic needs.
