UPDATED June 25: U-Haul Company of Western Iowa president Nikki Newton announced that U-Haul Moving & Storage of Sioux City has been added to the disaster relief offer, with U-Box portable storage containers being made available on-site for customers in need at no cost for one month. The response is due to the massive flooding that has taken place in Clay County, Iowa, and surrounding areas. In the town of Spencer, hundreds of people needed rescuing and hundreds more have been evacuated to shelters with rising waters cutting off the town from the rest of the state.

U-Haul® is offering 30 days of free self-storage and U-Box® container usage to residents impacted by record-breaking rainstorms in Davison and Lincoln counties.
An unprecedented amount of rainfall that began Thursday has caused flash floods and road closures in Sioux Falls and Mitchell. South Dakota officials issued evacuation notices to residents living near overflow areas.
With numerous homes facing water damage, self-storage and portable storage containers are crucial during the recovery process following natural disasters.
Eric Erbentraut, U-Haul Company of Fargo president, announced two stores in his region will provide one month of free self-storage and U-Box container usage to residents affected by the flooding. U-Box containers can be stored securely at the participating facilities – or delivered and picked up from residential locations at no cost as part of the U-Haul disaster relief program.
“We want to help our neighbors recover from these flash floods,” Erbentraut said. “If we can assist people by providing free access to dry storage for 30 days, we’re happy to do that.”
The 30-day free offer applies to new storage and U-Box rentals and is based on availability. People seeking more information or needing to arrange storage services should contact the nearest participating facility:
