U-Haul Offers Help as Florida Prepares for Tropical Storm Debby

Aug 3, 2024

With 10 million people under a tropical storm warning and a hurricane watch being issued for parts of the Florida panhandle, U-Haul is stepping up with a disaster relief offer ahead of Tropical Storm Debby.

Floridians preparing for the storm and in need of 30 days free self-storage or U-Box portable container usage can take advantage of the Company’s disaster relief program at 75 U-Haul-owned and -operated stores.

Access to dry and secure self-storage rooms and portable storage containers can be vital for communities making storm preparations or facing recovery.

Tropical Storm Debby is building strength in the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to make landfall near Florida’s Big Bend region, east of Tallahassee, early in the coming week. Models indicate it could threaten much of northern and central Florida with storm surge, flooding and high winds. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency for 54 of the state’s 67 counties.

The U-Haul 30-day free offer applies to new self-storage and U-Box rentals and is based on availability. Please check with your nearest participating location to learn whether traditional self-storage, U-Box portable storage or both are available at that store. The U-Box offer is for on-site storage at U-Haul facilities and does not include residential delivery and pick-up of containers.
