Team U-Haul Builds Beds for Children through Sleep in Heavenly Peace

Dec 19, 2025

The U-Haul Human Resources team recently joined forces with more than 120 volunteers from other organizations across the Valley to build 239 beds for children in need through Phoenix nonprofit Sleep in Heavenly Peace.

The charity’s mission is: “No kid sleeps on the floor in our town!”

Sleep in Heavenly Peace consists of 400 chapters across the U.S. The Phoenix branch has been proudly serving the community for more than seven years and reached a major milestone of building and delivering its 10,000th bed to an Arizona child.

The chance to partner with Sleep in Heavenly Peace to build beds for children in need was another great opportunity for Team U-Haul to give back this holiday season.

“We had a wonderful bed build with Team U-Haul and are so grateful for the relationship we are building together,” said Joe Genovese, Sleep in Heavenly Peace Arizona Chapter President. “With 2,880 children on our waiting list, we need all the love and support we can muster.”

The Task at Hand

An enjoyable and rewarding time was had by Team Members who sawed, sanded, drilled and assembled the beds. Each station on the assembly line played a crucial part in the process.

“Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a great organization that brings people together to assemble beds so kids in our community can have a safe, comfortable place to sleep,” said Jaris Scott, U-Haul Director of Human Resources. “I was glad to help support their mission for a few hours. It felt good to be part of something that makes a real difference for families who need it.”

U-Haul, celebrating 80 years of Moving America in 2025, has been headquartered in Phoenix since 1967 and is actively involved in good works for the community. The industry leader in do-it-yourself moving and self-storage has a longstanding commitment to helping people meet their most basic human needs (food, clothing and shelter) through numerous charity partners.

What They Said

“We worked as a team to achieve a common goal, which is always a satisfying feeling. However, that feeling is amplified when the goal is serving the ones that need help. I am grateful to work on a team that is enthusiastic about helping those in need and grateful to work for a company that is committed to giving back.” — Alexander Wille, U-Haul HR Business Analyst

“I was honored to partner alongside Sleep in Heavenly Peace with my HR team and all the wonderful churches and partners for a few hours. I had no idea this organization existed and that children sleeping without a bed was such a need in our community. I am truly grateful that I could play a small part in ensuring 230-plus kids had a bed to call their own! I highly encourage others to join this great cause and donate their time to sand, nail, cut or stain lumber for a few hours. This was a true blessing to be a part of.” — Jennifer Brito, U-Haul ContactCenter & Field Recruiting Lead

“During my visit with Sleep in Heavenly Peace, I helped sand, which seemed like a small task. It hit me when I saw the finished bed and thought, ‘I helped make that for a child who needs it!’ The impact this organization has on the community is amazing. I was honored to play a tiny part in bringing a smile and providing a safe, comfortable place for a child to sleep.” — Patty Lopez, U-Haul HR Compensation Program Manager
