Nearly 30 U-Haul Team Members representing three marketing company offices showed up to cheer on participants of the seventh annual Semper Fi & America’s Fund PTSD Century Hike: Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas.
The event was held April 29-May 3 and showcased a 100-mile walk over five days to raise awareness for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among military service members and veterans.
Beyond serving as a beacon of hope for those battling PTSD, the hike is also a fundraiser for Semper Fi & America’s Fund, which supports those dealing with their silent struggles.
U-Haul, founded by a WII Navy veteran and his wife in 1945, was born from the freedoms that our veterans preserved in battle. Many of the Company’s first Team Members, dealers, and customers were veterans returning from the war, seeking to move their families to a better life.
Today, U-Haul proudly continues its support and appreciation for veterans by recruiting them and giving them preference in the hiring process. The Company also earmarks a significant portion of its Community Relations funds to assist reputable nonprofits that support veteran causes and honor our military heroes.
With Semper Fi & America’s Fund asking U-Haul to fill “cheer stations” along the PTSD Century Hike course, several regional offices under U-Haul Area District Vice President Matt Merrill stepped up.
Representatives of U-Haul Co. of South Central Dallas (Co. 835), led by president Sean Fullerton, gathered in Irving. Representatives from U-Haul Co. of Fort Worth (Co. 836), led by president Norman White, and U-Haul Co. of Northwest Dallas (Co. 859), led by president Jordan Brazzel, congregated at stations in Fort Worth.
The groups held signs of support and shouted encouragements as participants passed.
“(U-Haul) had at least 10 people at three different cheer stations. Truly amazing!” exclaimed Tracey Brunetti, Senior Manager of Outreach Development for Semper Fi & America’s Fund. “Thank you for supporting this and loved being able to have (U-Haul) in our mission.”
