Haul-ing Donated Bikes To Children In Need

Jan 8, 2015

In the spirit of the holidays, David Cruz, Executive Administrator for The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Peninsula, helped organize a charity event to supply local low income families with bicycles. The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Peninsula have 3 clubhouses and 6 school sites in East Palo Alto, Menlo Park and Redwood City, California. In 2014 they helped nearly 1,800 low income youth participate in expanded learning programs that support their progress toward high school graduation followed by college and career readiness.Boys and Girls Club Donated Bikes

Google, which has its headquarters in Palo Alto, held a bike building party and chose to donate all of their completed bikes to the children of the Boys and Girls Club of the Peninsula. After the bicycle building party Google had a total of 90 safety inspected bikes with new helmets.

On the day of the event it took only an hour to fill up the U-Haul truck with the donated bikes.  For the rest of the day the bicycles were distributed to children throughout Palo Alto, Menlo Park and Redwood City, California.

Donations like these are a reminder that working together can help support the mission of important organizations such as The Boys and Girls Club of the Peninsula by providing the opportunity of a great future to our youth.
