U-Haul 2016 Destination City No. 10: Charlotte

May 15, 2017

In at No. 10, Charlotte, N.C., is among the U-Haul Top 10 U.S. Destination Cities for 2016, rising four spots from its previous destination ranking of No. 14, according to the latest U-Haul migration trends report.

Charlotte witnessed an 8.9 percent increase in arrivals over 2015 to become one of the top 10 busiest U.S. cities for incoming U-Haul trucks.

U-Haul Destination Cities are ranked according to the total number of arriving one-way U-Haul truck rentals to a city in the past calendar year. Destination Cities do not account for departing traffic and thus do not necessarily reflect growth like U-Haul Growth Cities. Destination Cities reflect the volume and regularity of do-it-yourself movers coming into a community.

Mayor Roberts approves

“The word is out: Charlotte is a great place to live, work, and play,” Charlotte Mayor Jennifer Roberts said. “Charlotte will continue to be a winning city because of our good jobs, great weather, and our commitment to being a welcoming and inclusive city.”

What They are Saying about Charlotte

“As a Charlotte native, I can appreciate so much about this city. We are right in the middle of everything. It takes less than two or three hours to get to the beach or the mountains, and many Carolinians have second homes there. We are also the home of NASCAR. In addition, many racing families call Charlotte and surrounding cities home.” – Max Stuart, traffic control manager, U-Haul Company of Charlotte
