U-Haul International hosted the Midtown Farmers Market for the second spring season, offering monthly events for the Midtown Phoenix community to gather and support local growers and entrepreneurs.
The four 2019 spring markets concluded in April and offered a wide range of vendors selling local food, fresh produce and Arizona-made goods.
“The Midtown Farmers Market began with the objective to encourage the health and wellness of our Team Members. However, we are proud to host an event that is open to the surrounding community of neighborhoods and businesses,” noted Alexia Bednarz, U-Haul Community Advocate for Corporate Sustainability. “U-Haul has continually aimed to be a positive and integral part of the communities where we are located. The Midtown Farmers Market serves as a perfect example.”
Purchases Aid Local Charities
U-Haul hand-picks dozens of local businesses and farmers to ensure market purchases directly support the local economy. In addition to supporting local residents, 10% of market proceeds go to rotating partner charities. The focus of these charities is on feeding, clothing and sheltering those in need.
Thanks to its supporters, the Midtown Farmers Market has raised $3,380 for charities such as St Vincent de Paul, St. Mary’s Food Bank, the American Cancer Society and Andre House.
“We encourage attendants to learn where their food comes from, how their food was grown, and how it was treated. They can do this while meeting the growers and entrepreneurs who supply the food,” Bednarz continued. “It is a fruitful event where the Midtown community can expect to shop local, seasonal, healthy and environmentally friendly options. They also get to support a good cause in the process.”
