U-Haul presented longtime charity partner St. Mary’s Food Bank with a $17,500 check on Sept. 23 as the do-it-yourself moving company renewed its commitment to be the nonprofit’s Food Drive Box title sponsor for the coming year.
The donation accompanied the U-Haul annual volunteer day during St. Mary’s Hunger Action Month in September. Team Members spent their Wednesday afternoon packing emergency food bags that will be handed out to students of at-risk families at their respective schools.
U-Haul packed 1,440 “backpack” bags, which filled 480 boxes and 12 pallets in two hours.
Time to Help
The call to help at-risk families overcome hunger and keep food on the table has only intensified during 2020 as Arizonans and nonprofit organizations deal with the many drawbacks of COVID-19. Please visit firstfoodbank.org for ways to donate or volunteer.
St. Mary’s Food Drive Boxes, which proudly display the U-Haul logo, are placed in offices and business lobbies throughout the state as collection points for feeding those in need.
In addition to its Food Drive Box sponsorship and volunteer work, U-Haul collected 992 pounds of food donations at its corporate towers in Midtown Phoenix as well as the U-Haul Tech Center in Tempe. Team Members also contributed $1,005 online. Between the food and cash donations, St. Mary’s will be able to generate 7,862 meals for at-risk families.
U-Haul support has resulted in meals for more than 600,000 Arizonans through St. Mary’s in just the last five years.
Community Support

U-Haul, which offers 22,000 truck- and trailer-sharing locations throughout the U.S. and Canada, enriches the communities in which it does business by assisting charities that address the most basic human needs: food, clothing and shelter. This has long been the scope of the Company’s community outreach because U-Haul views mobility as a basic need for every family, and works to keep costs low to meet that need.
Founded by a WWII-era Navy veteran and his wife in 1945, U-Haul is also a proud supporter of many military and veteran groups that provide for these basic needs.
