U-Haul Sponsors 17th Annual Pat’s Run Honoring Pat Tillman

May 24, 2021

More than 20,000 runners and walkers around the world joined in support of the Pat Tillman Foundation and the Tillman Scholars this year. A large group of U-Haul Team Members was among those participants.

Year after year, hundreds of dedicated Team Members have taken part in the event. The 17th annual Pat’s Run was hosted as a virtual event for the second year in a row. From April 24-26, participants took on the challenge of running or walking 4.2 miles. With their Tillman race bibs and t-shirts on, everyone took to the streets to honor Pat Tillman and the Tillman Scholars. After completion, participants received a medal to celebrate their accomplishment.

Honoring Pat Tillman

Tillman was a football star at Arizona State University and an NFL starting safety for the Arizona Cardinals. Rather than continue his successful football career beyond his four years in the league (1998-2001), Tillman made the decision to enlist in the U.S. Army after the attacks of 9/11.

Tillman served two tours in Iraq and Afhanistan before devastating events on April 22, 2004, took his life. To honor his life and courage, Tillman’s family and friends began the Pat Tillman Foundation.

Supporting the Community

The Pat Tillman Foundation provides financial support to military veterans and their spouses through academic scholarships, building a diverse community of leaders committed to serving others.

The Tillman Scholar Program has invested $20 million in 695 promising men and women. The program has resulted in a 98% graduation rate, a 96% employment rate, and more than 55,000 community service hours from those who have benefitted.

U-Haul has partnered with the Pat Tillman Foundation since 2010 as a sponsor of Pat’s Run. Co-founded by a WWII U.S. Navy veteran and his wife in 1945, U-Haul has a longstanding commitment to supporting organizations that honor and assist veterans and active military members.
