Thank You Detroit! – 11-19-12

Nov 19, 2012

Thanksgiving is a time for reflection and a time to give thanks. And we certainly have a lot to be thankful for at U-Haul Moving and Storage of Detroit. To begin with, we are thankful that we are on track to revitalize the NBC-Nabisco building so we can serve Midtown Detroit.

Showroom Build Out Begins

Plumbing work of Showroom Restroom

The city inspector approved the showroom floor and we have started the build out of the showroom. First up is the restroom. (Gotta take care of the important stuff first.) The walls are up and drywall installed. The plumbers have located the drains, cored-drilled the floor…and they’re running the plumbing through the walls.

We expect steam heat in the next 7-10 days. That will be a welcome event! We’ve had a couple of rounds of below-freezing temperatures, but we’ve been able to maintain temperatures inside the building above 32 degrees.

All of the broken windows in the showroom have been repaired. This has been a challenge because, as I wrote in an earlier post, the window panes were hand-cut and of different sizes. Our glaziers had to cut the replacement glass to fit and, in some cases, had to repair/reweld the frames.

Third-Floor Prep for Self-Storage Underway

We have started preparing the third floor for self-storage. We are taking out the offices on the floor, and the construction material for the self-storage units has been ordered and should arrive in a few weeks. A new riding floor sweeper has arrived. This may not seem like a big deal, but when you have to clean thousands of square feet of floor, it is VERY exciting! Hopefully I’ll have photos for you in the next post.

Thank You Detroit!

Community Bloggers
Thank you bloggers!

We are also thankful for all of the contractors, their crews, city officials and workers, community businesses, organizations and bloggers that we have been working with these past five months. Beyond their professionalism and craftsmanship, their enthusiasm and pride in being part of our revitalization effort, as well as their ongoing efforts to help make a difference in their community, encourage and inspire everyone at U-Haul.

What are you thankful for?

That’s it for this week! As a reminder, this blog was created to let the community know that U-Haul is in Detroit, and to share our plans with you and to get input from the community. We want to hear from you. Tell us what you like and don’t like about our posts, building plans or anything else you want to share about Detroit. We are excited to be part of the Detroit community and want to learn from you!

Happy Thanksgiving! Next update 12/3.
