U-Haul and ACS Join Forces in Climb to Conquer Cancer

Mar 1, 2024

The Climb to Conquer Cancer of Phoenix is the American Cancer Society’s largest single-day climb event in the world. Every February in Arizona, thousands of cancer survivors, family members, caregivers and supporters participate in the Climb to Conquer Cancer.

U-Haul Committed to Fight Cancer

U-Haul has supported the Cancer Climb since 1993. The hike takes place at South Mountain where participants complete a 5.5-mile roundtrip hike up Summit Road. More than 90 U-Haul Team Members signed up to take part in the 2024 event.

U-Haul Team Members raised more than $12,000 for the ACS to fund innovative research, provide free information to cancer patients, supply transportation to and from treatments, and ultimately save lives. Over the last 30 years, U-Haul has raised more than $800,000 for ACS.

U-Haul International always matches the funds raised by its Team Members dollar-for-dollar, which doubles the impact in the fight to end cancer.

Climbing with a Purpose

Eva Franco, an Account Representative for U-Haul Corporate Sales, was among the hikers who woke up early on Saturday, Feb. 24, to hike for a worthy cause.

“I have participated in the Cancer Climb every year since 2004,” Franco said. “I feel honored to work for a company that has the compassion to help raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society.

“It is a great thing that U-Haul does for people currently battling cancer and their families. To know that we are a part of something so great, for life-changing moments in people’s lives, is one of the greatest feelings.”

Nicole Hosking, Director of Development for U-Haul Construction/Renovation, climbs for her friends and family members who have been affected by cancer.

“This year, I walked for my mom who sadly passed away in August from a very aggressive form of leukemia that took her life within two weeks of her diagnosis,” Hosking said. “I also walk in support of my sister-in-law, who has been battling breast cancer for almost seven years.

“I’m proud to work for a company that supports causes like this and to know that U-Haul has been a corporate sponsor for so long. So many people are affected by this terrible disease and supporting fundraising efforts like the Climb to Conquer Cancer, the ACS is helping to provide research, care and support services to many people who are affected by cancer.”
