Summer is moving season. Odds are you have seen a U-Haul® truck, trailer or U-Box portable container coming or going from your neighborhood. Maybe you were the one moving.
For its midyear migration report, U-Haul analyzed one-way transactions based on the generational group of its renters, considering customer moves over a 52-week period from July 2025 through June 2026.
What U-Haul found is that the renter’s stage of life plays a major role in where they are moving.
Looking at departing one-way traffic from every U.S. metro with a population of 1 million residents or more, here are the leading net-gain destinations for each generation of U-Haul customer for those markets since last summer:
