U-Haul Truck Sales: More Than Meets the Eye (Part 2)

Jun 16, 2015

Back by popular demand—more examples of U-Haul trucks enjoying their second lives. You may have seen our first installment of “More Than Meets the Eye,” which showed several retired U-Haul trucks that have been converted into all sorts of things: a carnival slide, an RV and even a storage shed. If you haven’t seen them, or if you just want to see them again, click here.

When a truck retires from the U-Haul fleet, it’s put up for sale. Many individuals and businesses purchase these trucks and transform them to fit their needs, and as you can see, there seems to be no end to what those needs are! Seeing what people can do with a U-Haul truck once it’s sold proves two things:

  1. U-Haul trucks are built to last and can serve the public long after they’re retired from the U-Haul fleet.
  2. People have some very imaginative and creative ideas when they buy one of these retired U-Haul trucks!

Here are more examples to show that when it comes to U-Haul trucks, there really is more than meets the eye!

 Dump Truck

This truck proves that U-Haul trucks can still haul heavy loads long after they’re retired from the U-Haul fleet! The person who bought this for-sale U-Haul truck had the cargo box removed so it can haul construction materials instead of household goods.

 TM in Bahamas

This U-Haul truck is living out the retirement dream that many of us share—retiring to the Bahamas! It had to be quite a journey to get to the island, considering U-Haul trucks are only available for rent in the U.S. and Canada. But it appears Claudette’s Native Food in Nassau knew where to find a reliable truck they could turn into a food truck, and they knew the lengths they had to go to get it would be worth it.

 Red Cross Truck

U-Haul trucks spend many years criss-crossing the roads of North America helping families move to better lives. Obviously, they don’t stop doing good when they’re retired from the U-Haul fleet, as evidenced by this truck, which is spending its retirement years helping people when they need it the most as an American Red Cross Disaster Services vehicle.

What’s the most unique use you’ve seen for a retired U-Haul truck? Let us know in the comments section.
