Partners in Mission Food Blitz

Jun 28, 2015

Wednesday, May 14, Partners in Mission Food Bank celebrated its 30th Annual Hotel Dieu Hospital’s Mission Food Blitz. With a goal of collecting 100,000 lbs of non-perishables, Sandy Singers and everyone else at the Partners in Mission Food Bank worked hard to make the event a huge success.

On the day of, volunteers went door to door throughout Kingston, ON and collected bags that members of the community left on their door steps ready for the event. They also set up U-Haul moving trucks as drop-off locations where people could bring their donations directly.

Overall the event was a huge success and an incredible experience for everyone involved, as it always is. Mary Elaine Carty, Chaplin at Regiopolis Notre Dame High School says, “Our high school has been involved as long as I can remember. I participated as a student in the mid ’90s.” Last year Mission Food Blitz brought in over 50,000 lbs of non-perishables and 60,000 lbs of fresh produce. This year the Food Blitz surpassed 60,000 lbs of non-perishables alone!

Once all the food is collected from U-Haul truck drop-off locations and door-stop pick ups, volunteers such as the students at Regi Notre Dame help to sort and pack the food donations into boxes which are later delivered to help those who need it. The event itself lasted from 6-9 P.M. and definitely helped to feed at least a small portion of those in Ontario who are in need of food.

Next May the event is sure to be a success again, so, “Join in the spirit of sharing. Please donate non-perishable food items to the Hotel Food Blitz for the Partners in Mission Food Bank” and continue the tradition. “30 years of caring”, and still counting.
